'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Les Payne 'stunned'

Rotherham United stunned Les Payne this week when they admitted they were in financial difficulties again. Les is the Millers reporter for The Star and has been for many years.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield tonight, he said, 'I had heard whispers that the club were having money problems round about Christmas so I can't say it was a total shock. But this will be the third time we have talked about going into administration - when Ken Booth took over the club it was in administration. People seem to be in less of a panic this time but I don't think we should get too laid back, I mean, this could be the end - it was very nearly the end last time. I hope something can be done and that the club attract a wealthy investor because that's what we need.

'I think a new stadium would give the town a huge lift - but that's to do with the Borough Council.

'You know, the gates are better than they were when we got promotion with Ronnie Moore which is excellent really. I think everyone connected with the club will be pulling together and that the team will be playing for promotion.'
