'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - RBC will do all it can but..

Rotherham United have been told by the Council that they will help to try and keep Rotherham United alive ... but wouldn't commit themselves to any financial backing.

Roger Stone, leader of Rotherham Borough Council, told The Advertiser, 'if we lose Rotherham United I think something in the town will die. The football team is an important part of the town and we will do everything we possibly can to ensure it stays. We are looking for ways to help but what we can't do is bail them out.'

Earlier this week the Council said that there are still talks going on to build a Community Stadium in Parkgate and Cllr Stone said, 'Everyone assumes that the community stadium is just for football but that isn't the case it's also about rugby and something for the community. But we are working with the assumption that there will be a football team in the town.'

Chairman, Denis Coleman said, 'We talk to the Council every day and, although I cannot speak for the Council, the indication they have given me is that it is important to have a professional football team in the town.'

so when the football club announce it has to close the council can say "no point in building a new ground" but we did try.
