Long serving employees axed

Two long servicing members of staff at Rotherham have been made redundant as a result of the club falling into administration on Tuesday.

Long serving, and award winning groundsman, Bill Corby and Customer Relations Manager Carol Rockett were both made redundant as a result of cost cutting measures by administrator Jeremy Bleazard on Wednesday.

Corby, 57, who had given 25-years of service to the club since 1983 had been named Groundsman of the Year in the Football League on three occasions, he was understandably devastated, he told The Star: "Ironically, I've never seen the pitch looking in better condition at this time of year than it does now.

"Ever since Ken Booth, then chairman, invested money in it by involving a particular firm of specialists to carry out certain work each year, it can stand up to anyone's pitch.

"I've really enjoyed my time there and would like to thank the fans who have always been brilliant with me."

Rockett had given the club over 10-years of service, working in a variety of positions in the Commercial Office including being Commercial Manager, Customer Relations Manager, working in the Ticket Office and working on Hospitality on match days.

Further jobs will inevitably be lost and wage deferrals will be likely, which is all very sad for all concerned.
