A week ago, it seemed that no one in the Rotherham area had any money, and Rotherham United would soon be no more. Now, it would seem, there are three interested parties who are putting in a bid to buy the club.
Firstly, there is the Irish Consortium headed by Anthony McMullen, who, we understand, were interested before we went into administration but couldn't quite get a deal together - a week on they are still 'being diligent.'
Dino Maccio and Alan Cartledge have come into the fray and are being supported by the Supporters Club. If anything, at least these two should know what they are getting into as they have been directors before. President of the Supporters Club, Howard Hall told The Advertiser 'they have our official backing because it is important the Millers stay in local control. They are local, they're fans and they have the contacts to make it work.
'We support Dino and Alan because of their business contacts and Dino's connection with the Booth family which can only bring long term stability to the club.'
Mr Hall also revealed that the Supporters Club intend, if the Maccio/Cartledge bid is successful, to revive the Town Tote. Here at Vital we understand that the gaming licence for this has been agreed by the Council. Mr Hall said, 'There will be an operational committee set up to run it on a daily basis, who will go out and promote the tote throughout the Borough purely for the benefit of Rotherham United. Our projected figures are that it will earn £250,000 a year although, in reality, it should bring in £500,000 a year. That contribution would be ongoing from the Supporters' Club and they would have a say in how it was administered. But, we would only be doing it to back the bid from Alan and Dino.'
A third bidder was announced today as longlife Miller, Darren Williams who is the managing director of Cheshire based group Brilliant Advice Group.
Mr Williams told The Advertiser that he would make further announcements following discussions with the Administrator and the Booth family.
