'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Yates 'team battled well'

Rotherham United beat Mansfield Town on Saturday with, what has been described, as a freak goal from Jamie Yates.

Nineteen year old Yates told the Official Site, 'If I'm being honest, I just smashed the ball towards goal and, luckily for me, it went in.'

The goal came on the seventy-first minute when Yates picked up the ball and sent it soaring from the touchline. With the Stags 'keeper thinking it was going out, it seem to take on a life of it's own and went in just under the crossbar.

Yates, who came on at half-time, carried on, 'Mansfield were just starting to get on top when myself and Derek Holmes came off the bench.

'Unfortunately for Mansfield it leaves them on the brink of relegation from the football league. But it was a great win for us and I thought the whole team battled well. We will be looking to take this form into next season.'

Speaking about next season, Jamie said, 'I want to play and score as much as possible. As a team, we want to be up there challenging again next season.'
