RUFC - Warrington wins Award

Rotherham United goalkeeper, Andy Warrington, picked up the 'Rotherham player of the Year' at the Star and Green'Un football awards dinner last night.

Thousands were raised for the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Appeal which included a lady in the crowd bidding for framed autographs of the eleven 1966 World Cup Winners, along with Alf Ramsay and Kenneth Wolstenholme. In the end she bought it for £4,000.

Speaking to The Star about his award, Warrington said, 'I'm delighted to win this award. For all those who voted for me I send my grateful thanks.'

Other winners last night were:

Barnsley - Team of the Year
James Beattie - Blades Player of the Year
Mark Beevers - Owls Player of the Year
Stephen Foster - Barnsley Player of the Year
Jack Lester - Chesterfield Player of the Year and Golden Boot
Keith Hackett picked up a lifetime achievement award

At the end of the night the managers got on stage and sang 'New York, New York' in honour of the late Derek Dooley.
