'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Douglas 'liabilities if we leave Millmoor'

Rotherham United's Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas has been talking to The Advertiser about moving away from Millmoor.

He says that the lease on the ground demands that the club leaves the ground as it found it.

'When we took over the ground,' Mr Douglas says, 'there were four stands. Now there are only three plus one half-built. The owners of the ground, the Booth family, could be reasonable and not ask us to rebuild the stand and ask for a million quid to compensate.

'We have fed enough information to the press that has created a poor relationship between us and them but I don't want to inflame it anymore.

'Now there's a new board maybe the animosity has gone and like professional business people they can sit round a table and be realistic about the lease.

'The Booth family have never issued any threats or have said they plan to use the ground for other purposes and I do think there might be a chance we can negotiate something and I'm really hopeful we will be able to stay at Millmoor but it will depend on goodwill on both sides.'

The current lease of the ground was signed by the former Millers 05 board but with the club going into administration a new lease will have to be drawn up between the new owners and the landlords.
