RUFC - Cummins 'Rotherham were keen'

Rotherham United moved quickly once they found out that Micky Cummins wasn't in Darlington's plans for next season.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, the twenty-nine year old said he was expecting to go in next week and sign a new Quakers deal and he seemed surprised when he found out that Chairman, George Houghton had instructed manager Dave Penney to cut the spending budget and he was one of the ones not being offered a new deal.

'I've enjoyed my time at Darlington and it's hard to take,' Cummins said. 'As far as I knew I was going in on Tuesday to sign a new contract and hadn't asked my agent to do any work on finding me a new club. I'm not one to be waiting around all summer and I panicked a bit, phoned my agent and he phoned back and said Rotherham were keen and wanted to move fast. I've scored against them a few times when I played for Port Vale and again earlier this season. The assistant manager, John Breckin said he'd been tracking me for a few years and I went down for a medical, everything at the club seemed right and it's all done and dusted.'
