Liverpool Legend Helps Millers

Rotherham's Save the Millers campaign has received a high profile boost after Liverpool legend Phil Thompson made a donation live on Sky.

Thompson was appearing in his usual slot as a pundit on Gillette Soccer Saturday when a piece about the League One club's cash crisis was screened. He decided to make a 500 donation and he has called on others in the game to follow his lead.

'When I heard about Rotherham United's situation I immediately felt I wanted to do something to help,' Thompson said. 'I suggested that every Premiership player who earns more than 100,000-a-year should be encouraged to donate 500 to the Millers.

'I've started the ball rolling by donating my 500 and I shall show my cheque on the programme on Saturday and encourage others to do the same.

'Footballers in the Premiership enjoy the high life and it would be a great gesture from them if they could follow my lead and support the players, management, staff and fans of a lower league club like Rotherham United.

'I really do hope that the whole football community does whatever they can to help Save The Millers.'

It is expected that more premiership players are to follow suit.
