Rotherham United Supporters Club need new committee members after eleven of the twelve stepped down at the AGM on Monday after months, of what The Advertiser says were political troubles.
Officially backing a bid by a consortium headed by Dino Maccio and Alan Cartledge to buy the club, RUSC came in for a lot of criticsm from their members and others. It all came to a head when two of the committee members were verbally abused and had physical threats made against them which forced an open meeting to be cancelled for fear of safety issues.
The former Chairman of RUSC, Steve Pearce, told the Advertiser,'We have stood down with some reluctance but it has been a very difficult year. You have to be prepared to accept criticsm in our position but we feel so much of it has been unfair.
'Yes, we backed the Maccio/Cartledge bid and were ridiculed for doing so but we did it with the best interests of the club in mind. Everything we have done is because we all love Rotherham United.
'We hope the new committee can form a good relationship with the new chairman of the club. And I hope that new people will come forward to serve on the committee.'
The posts up for nomination are:
Treasurer
Secretary
Membership Secretary
Travel Organiser
Five Committee Members
There will be a meeting of the Supporters Club on Monday, 30th June at The Green Dragon starting at 7pm when nominations for the above posts will be taken. Members will be welcome on production of their 2007/08 or 2008/09 membership cards.
The former committee members would like to thank all those who have supported them throughout the last year.
