'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Coughlan didn't want to leave

Rotherham United's ex Skipper, Graham Coughlan didn't want to leave the Millers but believes he became a victim of the clubs fight for survival.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the thirty-three year old said, 'I've left because of the situation at Rotherham - because of the circumstances the club find themselves in at the minute. I believe in the manager and the squad of players but if anyone can do anything to help the situation they will. That was the case with me and I'm moving on. It was basically all in the clubs hands and it helps them.

'First and foremost we have to make sure there is a football club at Rotherham and I've done everything I can to help the club out. But, I'm leaving with a heavy heart.

'Football wise my move to Shrewsbury is a good move and there's no doubt about it. But I'm away from my children now and it's a bit of a gut-wrencher but I shall get back up as much as I can. '

Speaking about the new Millers Chairman, Coughlan said, 'The new chairman has come in and been different class for the club and the town. To get the treatment that he is getting from the league is awful. The league should be helping clubs like Rotherham, not hindering them. If the League helped Rotherham then the club, with the help of Tony Stewart and Mark Robins could well get back up the leagues and be a force. With the squad they have they would definitely be in the top three.'

You know, this reads like we are short of cash but I understood that the new owner had more or less said we have all the cash needed - or have I misread what either he or Cocko has said?
