RUFC - Agents Fees Lowest since 2004

A Football League report on their Official Site says that Agents fees are the lowest since the publication of agents fees began in 2004.

It seems that there has been a fall of 14% between July 2007 and June 2008. The highest recorded Agents Fees Percent of Transfer Spending was in 2004/05 at 53%.

Lord Mawhinney, Chairman of the Football League said, 'In the last twelve months we have seen a resurgent transfer market with clubs spending greater sums on players and it is encouraging that this has not been coupled with a similar increase in agents' payments. Football League clubs continue to make genuine strides towards putting their economic affairs in order - though more remains to be done.'

A summary of the report for League Two is:

In League Two there were 1,188 player transactions - 38 involved the use of an agent

During this period clubs committed to spend £227,686 on agents fees

10 clubs committed to paying for the service of a licensed agent

14 clubs did not - they were - Accrington Stanley, Barnet, Bury, Chester, Chesterfield, Dagenham & Redbridge, Grimsby, Hereford, Lincoln, Mansfield, Notts County, Peterborough, Rochdale and Stockport

In all, last season, the following are figures committed to paying players' agents

Championship clubs accounted for £9.3m
League One clubs accounted for £1.53m
League Two clubs accounted for £0.23m
