'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Broughton 'Wages going down'

Rotherham United loanee, Drewe Broughton, has told The Advertiser that, since he's been in the game, wages have gone down.

'Clubs have to learn to live within their means,' the experienced striker says, 'they can't just go spending willy nilly to try chasing a dream. I've been at clubs that have gone into administration and I know the pressures it puts on the players. I've been offered more money to play abroad or in the Conference than I could earn in League Two. I've found it hard to get fixed up this summer which reflects the competition for contracts but a lot of it is down to finances.'

Last season, Broughton, looked like he was going to be a fixture in the MK Dons team that were finally promoted but an ankle injury sidelined him for eight weeks and he couldn't get back into the side. He went to Wrexham on loan and was made captain. 'I liked that,' he said. It was a good club but they ended up getting relegated and the season was frustrating in the end - not what I'd been used to.'

In the summer he came to Rotherham for a trial and manager, Mark Robins told him that if he didn't get fixed up he'd take another look at him and gave him a one month loan deal. 'The boss wants an experienced striker in here to help the young lads and I'm glad to get that chance. I've played in this league for seven years so know what it's like to do battle with centre-halves and I thnk I can take some of the physical pressure off the younger lads and let them get on and play their game.

'The stuff Rotherham are producing reminds me of Milton Keynes last season when they played some really good football. I have to say the lads are looking fantastic.'

Mark Robins said, 'If we are playing like we are then there is a possibility that we won't need Drewe but he does give us something different. But, we need a foil for Mark Burchill - Drewe could be that foil.'
