'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Reid, 'I'm no hero'

Rotherham United striker, Reuben Reid, has twice scored the winning penalty to put the Millers into the next round of the Carling Cup. But, he insists that he isn't a hero.

He is always one of the first to volunteer when it's penalty shoot-out time and he told The Star, 'I'm confident but I'm no hero. Others took penalties too and it was a collective effort that got us to that point.'

Football's gain is cricket's loss as far as Reid is concerned. 'I love cricket,' he said, 'and my brothers and I played for Gloucester from the U10's to U19's and then to second team level. My father, who is a Jamaican, taught me cricket and I was a serious left-handed batsman. My club is Bristol West Indies who play in the ECB Gloucestershire Premier League and at that level, when I bowl, I have a decent pace. I was playing cricket seriously but then Manchester United came along and I couldn't turn a chance like that down. I had a couple of months at Old Trafford but they didn't offer me anything and I went to Plymouth.'

Asked what he thought of the Millers he said, 'I'm definitely enjoying it.'
