RUFC - Warrington 'positivity about the place'

RUFC - Warrington 'positivity about the place'

Rotherham United goalkeeper, Andy Warrington has told Givemefootball.com that these are exciting times for Rotherham United.

Andy, who was voted the Supporters' Footballer of the Year and also Vital Rotherham's Footballer of the Year last season, joined the Millers last summer and the first thing he asked was, 'Is the club OK?'

Warrington carried on, 'I already lived in Rotherham and knew about the financial problems they'd had and about going into administration and I was told everything was going to be fine. Of course, we did end up going into administration again but we now have a new Chairman, Tony Stewart, and financially we seem to be heading in the right direction. We got a points deduction which didn't affect the players mindset too much but, of course, unlike the minus ten points we got last season, we did know it was coming. So, we prepared for it and it wasn't so much of a shock. And, the start of the season has been very good. I feel as if we are at the start of something that could be good and an air of positivity has replaced the doom and gloom of last season.

'We are playing at Don Valley, which is an athletics stadium, and during the pre-season games there didn't seem to be any atmosphere but that seemed to get better when the season began. It isn't an ideal place to play football but it was either that or the club would go under. The plan is to move back to a new stadium in Rotherham within four years.

'Our first aim, this season, is to get to nil points as soon as possible. Despite being handicapped, with the squad we have at the moment, we are quietly fancying ourselves.

'After the start we've made confidence is high and the team spirit is unbelievable.'
