'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Stewart 'no room for sentiment'

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart says there will be no room for sentiment on Saturday when Luton Town come to Don Valley.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Mr Stewart said, 'Like us, Luton have been through it too. But, we have to close in on the teams above us and that means beating them this weekend.'

The Chairman went on to say that the club is moving in the right direction with plans for a new training ground and stadium moving forward.

Mr Stewart, who took over the club in the close season, said, 'My personal low point was how long it took the club to get out of administration. It was the longest process I have experienced and at times it was a torment. But once that had happened it gave everyone a lift and we could finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. The points deduction left us numb but we had to make sure that all the negative feelings were quickly pushed aside. We rolled up our sleeves and said 'right, let's get on with it.' We vowed not to sit around and worry and the players have been playing every game like it's a Cup Final.

'We've been heartened by the response we've had from the fans after moving away from Millmoor, with season ticket sales actually going up twenty per cent from last season.

'The results have lifted everyone and getting the minus seventeen down to minus six is very pleasing. And you know, I am the eternal optimist and I believe we can be sitting mid-table by Christmas.'
