RUFC - Reserves Lose to Iron

A strong Rotherham team lost 2-0 last night to Scunthorpe Reserves at Don Valley.

Omar Garcia had a shot in the first few minutes but it went straight to Iron 'keeper, Josh Lillis and a few minutes later Mark Hudson had a shot cleared off the line after he'd rounded the 'keeper. But Scunthorpe came back strong and Ian Morris hit the crossbar from twenty yards out and Peter Winn had a goal bound shot deflected by David Haggerty. Ryan Taylor perhaps should have done better after receiving the ball from Hudson but Lillis easily saved his shot. On the twenty-seventh minute Winn beat Marc Joseph to a bouncing ball and slotted it past Steven Cann in the Millers goal.

At the start of the second half, Marc Newsham fired just over from the edge of the area and Jamie Yates saw his curling shot hit the cross bar. But ex Miller loanee, Jonathan Forte doubled the advantage for the visitors on the fiftieth minute when he shot into the net from a tight angle. The Millers never got back into the game after that and Steven Cann made a great save from Kevan Hurst to keep the score down to two.
