RUFC - Reserves Lose

Rotherham United Reserves went to Huddersfield yesterday and were defeated 6-3.

The Millers playing a strong team started the game well and Ryan Taylor should have scored in the opening minutes when a Jamie Yates corner found him but he headed wide in front of an open net. But he made amends on the ninth minute when a Town defender's bad backpass went straight to Taylor who slotted the ball past goalkeeper, Simon Eastwood. Three minutes later, Taylor should have had another but he sent his shot way over the bar and Town's Robbie Williams had a weak shot which was easily saved by Millers 'keeper, Stephen Cann. Town got back into the game on the twenty-fifth minute when some good passing found Keigen Parker who put the ball into the net. Marc Newsham hit a shot straight at 'keeper Eastwood while at the other end an identical shot from Michael Collins was easily saved by Cann. Omar Garcia and Taylor both had shots saved by Eastwood towards the end of the half.

Within a minute of the second half starting, Town went into the lead with a goal that, although given to Luke Beckett, was deflected off a Millers defender. Eight minutes later, Town went further into the lead with a second goal from Parker and in the sixty-fourth minute Danny Broadbent slammed the ball in to make it 4-1. The Millers rarely threatened the home team although Garcia had the ball saved at his feet by Eastwood before the Spaniard scored an impressive free kick on the seventieth minute. Minutes later, Lewis Nightingale easily beat Andy Todd and slid the ball across goal for Tom Denton to score and Robbie Williams got his second and Towns sixth on the stroke of full time. In time added on Marc Joseph got the Millers third.
