'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Holmes 'Maybe I'll be involved, maybe not'

Rotherham United recalled Peter Holmes from his loan spell at York City this week as cover for the busy schedule in the next couple of months.

Manager, Mark Robins, sent Holmes out on loan to get his fitness levels up and to sharpen his game and, while he's been at York, there have been good reports about him.

He travelled with the team to Bury on Tuesday night but didn't make the bench and it seems the twenty-seven year old midfielder has a long way to go before he regains his first team spot.

Speaking to The Advertiser, Holmes said, 'There's a lot of games coming up. Maybe I'll be involved or maybe I won't. It's Rotherham United who pay my wages and they have priority when they come calling. There were another four players sat in the stands with me at Bury and players on the bench who are unhappy about not getting a game but the lads have been playing well and there's only eleven who can start.

'It's a bit of a kick in the teeth when you aren't playing but that's part and parcel of the game. You have to try and play your best and hope you get in the team. But, at my age, I need to be playing because there's no point in being a footballer and sitting in the stands or on the bench.

'Playing for the reserves isn't the greatest only getting one game in two weeks. I need to get some games in and that's what I've been doing at York and I've really enjoyed it there. Hopefully, it might open something up for me at Rotherham but they are doing well and it's going to be hard getting in. But, you never know, the gaffer might think I've done well and give me a chance.

'Football is about opportunities and it's up and down at times.'
