'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Nicholas 'early goal important'

Rotherham United defender, Andy Nicholas, says he is pleased the second goal against Macclesfield on Saturday has gone to him although, once he saw it over the line he wasn`t bothered who`d scored it.

Speaking to RotherFM, twenty-five year old Nicholas said, 'The ball hit me on the chest and there was a melee and it was really a bit of a barge that got it over the line.

'It was a difficult win with the wind blowing and the rain and there was a bit of a slope which made it a tough game. They played direct football and it was obvious that because we`ve been playing well they were trying to stop us playing football. The early goal was very important and it was our only chance in the first half. It was our only little patch of football.

'It was a pleasing win but the game ended in strange circumstances with Sharps` sending off which I don`t think we can appeal against because it was for two yellows and it`s unfortunate that he`s going to miss a game.

'We`ve got eight points now and a couple of more wins will take us to the twelve or thirteen mark and you`re right back in it then. Darlington on Tuesday night won`t be easy. Games are coming thick and fast now and for the next month we`re playing Tuesday then Saturday. We`re not getting too much training done because of all the games, though, as a professional footballer that`s how you want it. What we want now is to keep winning and to keep fit.`
