RUFC - Tonge hopes for more goals

Rotherham United defender, Dale Tonge, got his first ever senior goal at Macclesfield on Saturday and has told The Advertiser he hopes to get more.

Many of us in the crowd thought he was going to pass the ball on Saturday as he was closing in from goal at an angle. But the twenty-three year old shot and the ball went into the far corner of the net. He's said he didn't know how to celebrate and that 'the lads' have given him a bit of stick about his little jig!

But Tonge has only got back into the side because of an injury to Mark Lynch and he said, 'I thought I was playing well in pre-season. But I got a little injury and Lynchy got in and did really well. I was disappointed and frustrated but it's how you react to being left out that counts. Luckily, I got back in and hope I'm staking a claim. To be honest, a few months ago I probably would have squared that ball to Drewe Broughton but I'm playing with a bit of confidence at the moment and I got a good first touch and had a pop. Hopefully there's more goals to come from me.'

There is a rumour that injured defender, Stephen Brogan and Dale had a bit of a 'venture' going on. From what I can gather, now Dale has scored, he can pick what colour Paddy's hair is going to be for a week! So, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for a bright pink or purple head walking round Don Valley tomorrow! Or maybe red and white would be more appropriate!
