'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Rhodes 'Coaching staff keeping us fresh'

Rotherham United have been playing Tuesday-Saturday football for a few weeks now and it has been difficult to see when they have had time to fit training into the busy schedule.

In the last few weeks we've heard many of the players say they prefer the hectic schedule of playing two games a week to training. Manager, Mark Robins, has said that they are doing things 'differently' in training but winger, Alex Rhodes, says it's all down to the coaching staff.

Speaking to The Advertiser, the twenty-six year old said, 'The games are coming thick and fast but the coaching staff are doing well with us, making sure we get enough rest so we can produce the same amount that we have been doing on matchdays. We still train hard and the tempo is always fast but the staff know what days we need to rest and what we need to do to keep fresh for the games.'

Rhodes signed in the summer from Bradford on a year's contract and he says he wants to prove that he's worth keeping for longer. 'You always want to improve and prove to the manager that you're worth your place in the team each week. It would be the same if I was on a two or three year contract.'

His former team, Bradford City, come to Don Valley next week and he is looking forward to facing them. 'I have some good memories and friends there,' he said, 'but on the day, my only focus, is to make sure we get a good result.'
