Rotherham United suffered a blow when they played Gillingham earlier this month - not only did they lose four-nil, but first-team goalkeeper, Andy Warrington, got a shoulder injury after falling awkwardly. With only on-loan Jamie Annerson and untried, Steven Cann left to deputise, Manager, Mark Robins, went in search of an emergency loan 'keeper. He thought he'd found one when Bristol City agreed to let Chris Weale come to the Millers for a month but, unfortunately, the Football League's decision not to let City recall him at a minutes notice made the loan impossible. Steven Cann made his debut against Aldershot Town in the FA Cup replay, although he himself was still recovering from injury. Luckily, up stepped Fulham and allowed David Stockdale to come on loan.
Stockdale played in the defeat against Bradford and has blamed himself for the second goal, saying he should have got to it but he became a hero when he played in the mid-week game at Exeter. He pulled off some brilliant one handed saved plus he saved a penalty. Speaking to The Star, Andy Warrington said, 'When I was at York City, David came into the Youth team there and he did really well and last season I voted him as my professional of the year as I thought he'd had a fantastic season.
'I've been told that he did really well at Exeter. We have a squad policy at this club and whoever comes in has to play their part. I wish him the best of luck.'
