'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Cann on bench

Rotherham United fans may be a little puzzled to find out that Steven Cann, hero of Tuesday night's penalty shoot-out, is being dropped back to the bench for the trip to Accrington tomorrow. And, even Manager, Mark Robins, says he will be considering himself a little unlucky!

Speaking to The Star, Robins said, 'Steve did brilliantly on Tuesday night. But, when you have the calibre of David Stockdale available again after his ban, then he gets the nod.

'Steve is trying to earn himself a new contract and he only did himself some good on Tuesday by proving he can come in and do well. It's a step forward for him and it will help to build his confidence.'

Speaking to The Advertiser, Robins said, 'He is a very good goalkeeper and shot stopper but he needs to improve on hs decision making in games and he is starting to do that.'

Cann admitted he knew what his manager meant and said, 'I appreciate what the manager is saying and I'm really aware now that I need to keep my concentration. My contract is up at the end of the season and we'll have to see what happens but I am happy here.'
