'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Could it be Tinsley?

Rotherham United could be ready to settle on Tinsley as their new home, The Advertiser reveals today although, Chairman, Tony Stewart would not confirm this.

Mr Stewart did say that talks with various parties behind the stadium proposal will be taking place at the end of this month and that he already has ideas on how to fund the £15m project.

Until recently, the site that looks earmarked to be our new home, had the famous twin cooling towers on it and it has good road and motorway links.

Mr Stewart did say, 'The new stadium will put Rotherham United on the map. Things are moving in the right direction and the with the relevant people making the right noises we hope to have positive news soon.'

Mr Stewart is also pressing ahead for a new training ground with the first team, at the moment, training at The Keepmoat in Doncaster and this has been extended for another year. The Centre of Excellence uses Aston Comprehensive School and Mr Stewart wants to bring all the players together to a purpose built super site which will have five pitches and modern changing facilities. It is also hoped that the club could make some more income by hiring this out to the community.

**Update - Tony Stewart told the Yorkshire Post this weekend that 'we are hoping to identify a new site by the end of the month which is near the M1. We're working closely with the council on the project. By the end of the month, or the first two weeks in February, we will make a statement.'

I think, SB, with us being Millers we all take what is said with a pinch of salt until we actually see it. The thing I keep thinking is that around 6 months has gone of the four years we were given to get the club back into Rotherham. And, unless the boundaries have changed, I still think this site is just over the border into Sheffield [Edited by herringthorpe ]

I'm sure someone put a map on MAD showing this side of the M1 as being in Rotherham ie where the towers were.

OK tc - the boundaries around there have always been a mystery to me!

someone better redraw the boundries then because the ground will be in sheffield if it's ever built.
