RUFC - Stewart 'be surprised if Mark leaves'

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart said that he and Manager, Mark Robins shared a smile when the rumour went round that Norwich City wanted Robins to be their next Manager.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Mr Stewart said, 'Mark and I have a marvellous rapport and no approach has been made for him. I don't know what's happened at Norwich but, at the end of the day, I'd be amazed if Mark left Rotherham although it is quite flattering for him. But, I suppose, business is business and after being in business for thirty-five years I'm used to any type of surprises.

'In the short time Mark has been here he's taken responsibility and he's a professional guy. Within my reign we've seen a constant improvement and its gone so well and we want him to carry on. And, he's got a big job to do here. We are just two games away from Wembley with the first leg of the area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy against Scunthorpe this week.

'Mark is getting a good grounding at Rotherham and I have no doubt that he will move forward with a bigger group one day - but it's all about timing. He led the Youth team here and was then given the opportunity to manage the team at Rotherham United and then the club fell foul of the administrators and so he had to go through all that. The way we started this season has given him confidence and the supporters and I have the same confidence in him as he has in us.

'We are all looking forward and there's a good feeling about this club and we're walking tall.'
