RUFC - Pitch Talks

Rotherham United had their fourth home game called off late on Tuesday night when the pitch was deemed unfit to play on, around 6.00pm.

The Millers, who share the pitch with Sheffield Eagles Rugby League side as well as a non-league football club, are to have talks with Don Valley officials this weekend to discuss what can be done about the pitch.

I understand that drainage is a problem and, as we reported last month, the surface at Don Valley remains below the divisional average.

Paul Douglas, the Chief Operating Officer, told The Advertiser, 'The pitch does not get the loving care that a professional football pitch got. Because of the other teams playing there we don't get the time we would like to spend on it.

'The stadium people have agreed to meet us to see if we can work out a more cohesive plan together so our groundstaff, and their's, are not duplicating or undoing work already done.

'We will have more time on the pitch in the summer and with the continued co-operation of the staff at Don Valley then we are confident things will be improved.'
