'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Tonge 'we've been absolutely solid'

Rotherham United defender, Dale Tonge, has stood solid in defence alongside Ian Sharps, Nick Fenton and Jamie Green recently - infact, he says they have been 'absolutely solid.'

Having not conceded a goal in the last four games, twenty-three year old Tonge told The Advertiser, 'I honestly think that in Green, Sharpy and Fenners, there isn't a stronger set of defenders in the league. We understand each other now and we all know what we're thinking, for example, if Sharpy goes in for a header then I normally drop off and vice versa. It's good.'

Tonge's raids down the flank have been a feature of the Millers' play since he got his starting place back, due to an injury to Mark Lynch, a few months ago and he went on to say, 'The gaffer has given me licence to get forward which I enjoy. With that freedom and Greeny pushing on on the other side, we're both happy and playing to our strength. Although I'm happy with my form I always think I can do better.

'You know, for the two years I've been here we've been messed on but we all feel we deserve some success. I think if we can all stay together as a team we will be better for what we've been through. I would love to stay here. My contract is up and we'll have to sit down and talk but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.'
