'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Stewart 'progress being made'

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart, says that plans are still on target to build a new ground for the 2012 deadline and he has told The Advertiser that he hopes to be in a position to announce the site of the new ground by the end of this month.

The Football League gave the Millers a deadline of the 2012/13 season in which to return to their rightful home of Rotherham or they would have to stump up a £750,000 bond.

'We've had more meetings with the council and third parties,' Mr Stewart said, 'and progress is being made. The stadium has to be up and running by July 2012 and I am pushing like mad to meet that deadline. We aim to have all the planning completed by the end of April next year and that will give us eighteen months to build a stadium and another six or so to get it ready.'

The Chairman has appointed a stadium consultant and is in the process of setting on a specialist engineer who has worked on The Emirates Stadium project. 'This stadium is going to be an iconic landmark in the area and something of which all Rotherham United fans can be proud of.'
