RUFC - Trust Meeting last night

Rotherham United Trust held a meeting last night with the clubs chairman, Tony Stewart and afterwards went over the meeting at the Trust AGM with it's members.

These are the thoughts from someone who is both a member of the Trust and the Supporters Club who was at the meeting.

There were approximately sixty members present and a member of the Trust said that one of the main topics they discussed with Mr Stewart was the location of the new ground. It is thought that the new ground will be near Tinsley, where the cooling towers were recently removed from. People at the meeting pointed out that they believe that position is still within the Sheffield boundary and it seemed that people weren't happy about this. The B&Q site, which is another possibility, was thought to be too small and the ground capacity there would only be 10,000 and Mr Stewart wants to have a ground for 12,500 with scope to make it 15,000.

Mr Stewart has got his own planning people and structual advisors so will not have to consult a third party with negotiations.

The money from the new ground is coming from Mr Stewart, from grants, sponsors and the council and there will be no need to ask for loans from the bank. This means that the club will own the ground and surrounding land so there would be no rent to pay to anyone.

A vote was taken on the merger of the Trust and Rotherham United Supporters Club. This member thought that the vote was unfair as there was less than ten members of the Supporters Club there and so was bound to be carried. The Trust has about four hundred members and the Supporters Club two hundred.

Questions sent in by Trust members were put to Mr Stewart and they will be put on the Trust's website at a later date.

If anything should happen to Tony Stewart then his son would automatically take over from him.

As I said these are only notes made by someone at the meeting and I am sure the Trust will be putting a more accurate report on their webside - www.rufctrust.co.uk
