Rotherham United were given four years to get the club back to where it belongs - in Rotherham. With almost twelve months of those four years gone, Chairman, Tony Stewart says that plans for a new stadium are 'gathering momentum.'
As we've been told before, the club has engaged stadia experts to work on the design of a new ground and that club members have been going round the countries stadiums getting ideas. But everything seems to have come to a halt lately - although, of course, it could be a case of 'no news is good news.'
In today's Advertiser Mr Stewart says that he is fully aware of the supporters concerns but insists that the club are still in keeping with the time chart set up and even says there is a little time to spare.
'I've set on two people who played a big part in developing Derby's Pride Park and we are working in tandem with builders, Henry Boot. These people will make sure that Rotherham United supporters get the ground they want and what they can be proud of.
'We are still talking about a site at Meadowbank Road and the site at B&Q has been mentioned but another piece of land is now being considered and we are in talks with the owners, but I can't reveal where that land is.
'We have money and financial muscle and the stadium will be owned by the club. I will be custodian in the first instance but in years to come it will continue to generate revenue to give Rotherham United a long-term sustainable future whether in the Conference or the Premiership - and never rule that out. The ground will incorporate community facilities, modern lighting from ASD and the latest in green technology.
'The exciting news for the supporters will be when we can announce where the new ground will be built and we hope to do that soon.'
Mr Stewart also said that the new training ground will be built in Wingfield, off Roughwood Road, providing they can get planning permission.
