Rotherham United Manager, Mark Robins, told David Beddows of The Advertiser that he is in no rush to buy new players.
Having already got Kevin Ellison from Chester City and knowing that Jamie Annerson is about to sign from Sheffield United, Robins said, 'I won't have to do as much business as I did last summer and if the season started tomorrow we'd be OK. I want players here who will improve us and I have certain ones in mind.'
As usual, the manager wouldn't say who 'those players in mind' are but speculation is that he has had an offer for Tom Pope of Crewe Alexandra turned down. Other players supposedly on the list are Jack Lester of Chesterfield, Billy Clarke of Ipswich and Liam Hatch of Peterborough.
Robins went on to say, 'Like any business at the moment we are in the middle of an economic recession. We have to be prudent and realistic but if a player comes along who I think would make us better then I would speak to the Chairman.
'We need people to come and watch Rotherham United next season, because who comes through the turnstiles dicates what I have to spend in the transfer market.
'We have just come off the back of a really good season and next season everyone will expect us to go up. Our aim is to improve on last season and increase our points tally. If we do that then we will be there or thereabouts. We have to carry the weight of expectation through the season and we have to improve. Plans are being put in place to make sure we can do that and with a bit of luck and a fair wind we will.'
