RUFC - Lease granted for training ground

Rotherham United have been given a boost as a lease has been granted, in principle, for a new training ground on Roughwood Road, Greasbrough.

When the club moved away from Millmoor they also had to move from the training ground at Hooton Lodge and have been using The Keepmoat Stadium training facilities at Doncaster ever since.

The Millers Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas told the Official Site that the club have been talking with the Borough Council for some time about finding suitable land for a training ground and said, 'From the outset this was on the understanding that whilst its primary purpose would be to train and develop new young talent for Rotherham United, as well as the first team, it would also serve to benefit the community. In principle we have been granted the lease on a piece of land on Roughwood Road and will now work on getting the necessary planning permission.

'It is vital that we have a training base and acadamey of our own in Rotherham.'

The Strategic Director for Environment and Development Services for Rotherham Borough Council, Karl Battersby, however, was a little more cautious and said, 'the details of the lease have yet to be finalised. We have had on going talks with the clubs that use this site and they are positive about the opportunities this proposal will bring and, although the authority has agreed in principle to lease the land to the football club this is the start of a long process.'

Seems a bit silly having a training ground and no ground for the team to play on doesn't it
