RUFC - Stewart 'Reuben is a great player'

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart told the Yorkshire Post that want away striker, Reuben Reid is a great player.

MK Dons put in a bid for twenty year old Reid but the club turned them down and Mr Stewart says, 'Reuben is ambitious and there is nothing wrong with that. But, we are resolute that we aren't going to give him away. His agent, and us, want him to stay with Rotherham United and the way I see it is, if he's picked to play the first game of the season, he will be staying as a Rotherham player.

'MK Dons put in two bids of £100,000 with the second bid having additions to the deal. But, if we are going to sell Reuben then we need a good enough amount to invest in a suitable replacement. We have a price in mind that we would be willing to let the lad go for, and although two or three clubs have shown interest, no one has come to us with that price as yet.'

The Millers have brought in five new players this summer - Tom Pope, Nicky Law, Jamie Annerson, Kevin Ellison and Paul Warne will re-sign for the club he left four years ago on the 1st August. Mr Stewart said, 'The new players were all about beefing up our attack and midfield with Pope coming in as an addition, certainly not a replacement. He was brought in to play alongside Reid and as someone who will help the team move forward. If Reid goes then we will have to look for a replacement striker.'

Reid started the pre-season friendly against Walsall and all the new players got some playing time under their belts yesterday, including Pope who scored the Millers' only goal of the match.
