RUFC - Reid Cash Not For New Players

Rotherham United Manager, Mark Robins, has told David Beddows of The Advertiser that any monies got from the sale of striker Reuben Reid will not go towards buying new players.

Reid is expected to go to, probably, West Bromwich Albion, for over £250,000 in the very near future and with around £200,000 for sell on clauses for Shaun Barker and Lee Williamson, Rotherham United can expect to have around half a million pounds going into the bank in the near future.

Mark Robins says that the money will go towards laying a firm foundation for the club. 'The money saved from Reuben Reid's pay packet will go into the wages budget but anything else that comes in will be put into underplanning the future of the football club. Steve Coakley (Commercial Director) will maximise our commercial activity but that is limited because we are playing at a ground which we do not own. There's a new stadium and new training ground to fund and, while we are trying to put the best team as possible on the pitch, we are trying to do it prudently.

'We don't want the club to go into financial difficulties again.'

I thought, not long ago, it was said that the money we got from the sell-on clauses would be going towards new players?
