Rotherham United groundsman, Jim Davison, says that the pitch at Don Valley is going to be better than last season, infact, it's going to be 'tops'
With Don Valley hosting rugby games, athletics championships and the odd music concert, Jim has to get to work on the pitch when he can. Despite this, the playing surface scored just above average last season.
'Last year we had only two or three weeks on the pitch before the pre-season began but we've been able to do more this summer. We've done a lot to the underneath and there's a verti-drain system in place now. We're trying to introduce a fertiliser system and there's fifty per cent more grass on it now than last season. We've levelled a few dips and sorted the waterlogging problem out. I think the surface will be more durable this time - you can't tell the players have been on the pitch which is a good sign.
It's still not what I want but from my perspective it's better than it's ever been.'
