RUFC - Don Valley 'We Will Be Ready`

Rotherham United have been told that the pitch will be fit and ready for Sunday`s game at Don Valley after the U2 Concert on Thursday evening.

'We`re not inexperienced at staging concerts,` the Stadium`s General Manager, Pat Smith told The Advertiser. 'When Michael Jackson was here on a Wednesday night we had everything set and ready to go for the English Schools Athletics Championship on the Friday morning at 9am. We know we can do quick turn-arounds. The problem with this show is that it`s the biggest production that`s ever gone on tour - bigger even than the Rolling Stones` shows.`

The pitch at Don Valley has been partially covered with an aluminium platform that supports the stage and partly by a special plastic formula to protect it from being trampled on by the thousands of fans there.

'By the time they`ve cleared the area tomorrow (Saturday) night, we will have done most of the pitch because we`ll be following it as they go. We`ll have plenty of time to get everything ready. There will be discolouration of the grass but the risk of damage will be minimal.'
