RUFC - Pitch being re-turfed

Rotherham United's Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas, has told The Star that work will begin tomorrow on re-turfing parts of the Don Valley pitch.

'A lot of remedial work has taken place since Sunday,' Mr Douglas said, 'and most of the affected half of the pitch will regain colour quite quickly because the grass wasn't killed.

'We worked with the stadium staff to get the pitch playable for the game on Sunday and the referee inspected it and was perfectly happy to go ahead with the game. No one mentioned glass or metal on the pitch before the game to us, the safety officer or the referee. Does anyone think our club would allow our players to play on a pitch where there safety would be compromised? Of course not!'

It is understood that the cost of the work on the pitch is part of the contingency arrangement with the concert promotors.
