'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Barnsley - Robins Leading Contender

Rotherham United Manager, Mark Robins has been confirmed as the leading contender for the manager's job at Barnsley, Barnsley director, Don Rowing told The Star today.

Robins met with Mr Rowing and fellow director, Barry Taylor at Oakwell last night saying, 'Barnsley sought permission to speak to me and I was given permission to speak to them and I've taken that opportunity. A decision hasn't been made and I am the manager at Rotherham United and will be there in the morning.'

Mr Rowing said, 'We have had provisional talks with Mark and it's gone really well. At this stage we are still in talks but we are looking to meet again to conclude those talks. Mark is a promising young manager and we rate him very highly.

'The job has got to be right for Mark and there's still a lot of talking to do yet and it's unlikely anything else will happen before the weekend.'

Mr Rowling said that it would be wrong of Barnsley to rule out any other manager at this stage, saying, 'If things did fall through then it wouldn't be fair on any other applicants. But we won't be interviewing any other candidates at this stage.'
