'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Stewart 'We have a lot of thank Robins for'

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart has told The Star that the club have a lot to thank Mark Robins for.

Mr Stewart put Robins on 'gardening leave' on Thursday after he was given permission to speak to Barnsley football club about the vacant manager's job there. On Sunday it was announced that joining him on 'gardening leave' was John Breckin, Steve Taylor and Nick Daws after they expressed their desire to speak with Barnsley too.

'Mark went over there on Wednesday and things were going to go on until Sunday,' Mr Stewart said, 'and I thought it was better if we were out of the situation and that is why we did what we did on Thursday. Mark Robins is a good manager, and will be a better manager and we have a lot to thank him for.'

These sentiments were echoed by Barnsley Director, Don Rowing, who said 'Mark is a very good young manager.'

Mr Stewart has said, in the last couple of days, that there is exciting times ahead for Rotherham United. He now has to look for a new manager, assistant manager and backroom staff. I wish him well and it's not a job I envy him.

As we said yesterday, for the time being, Head of Youth, Steve Thornber will take charge of first team matters and will be assisted by Paul Warne and Alan Crawford.

It is expected that Mark Robins will be named Barnsley Manager at 2.30pm this afternoon
