'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Staunton expresses Millers interest

Rotherham United are on the look out for a new manager and it is well known that Ronnie Moore was one of the first to put in his CV for the job. Other names have been mentioned such as Chris Wilder, Gary Speed Steve Cotterell, Peter Jackson etc etc since Mark Robins decided to leave.

But today, ex Republic of Ireland Manager, Steve Staunton has told The Star that he is interested in the vacant position left by Mark Robins.

'At the moment I'm scounting for Wolves and looking after their Under sixteen side but I'm looking to get back into management,' Staunton said.

Staunton's football career began in England for Liverpool where he stayed for five seasons before moving to Aston Villa, back to Liverpool and back to Villa then onto Coventry and finally playing seven games for Walsall before hanging his boots up and going into management with the Republic of Ireland. In 2008 he joined Gary MacAllister at Leeds as his assistant, leaving ten months later when MacAllister was sacked.

Danny Hall of The Star asked Staunton what his ideas would be for the Millers he said, 'At this level it is important to utilise the loan system. Players can make a big impact and not cost much, if anything at all and so it's a win-win situation.

'I would be interested in the Rotherham job. They have a strong squad and are riding high at the moment with a strong chance of going up.'
