RUFC - Wilder staying put?

RUFC - Wilder staying put?

Rotherham United are on the look out for a new manager and one of the names that seems to have been talked about in the media and on the message boards is that of ex Millers player, Chris Wilder.

Chris began his footballing career with Sheffield United before moving to Rotherham in 1992. He played over one hundred and thirty games for the Millers before leaving and going to Notts County, Bradford, back to Sheffield United, Brighton and Halifax, where he took over the managerial reigns in 2002. He stayed at Halifax until June 2008 when he became assistant to ex Miller Alan Knill at Bury. He was appointed boss of Oxford last December.

Oxford United Chairman, Kelvin Thomas has told BBC Oxford that, although he realises that it will be inevitable that Chris Wilder is linked with clubs because of his success at Oxford, he doesn't believe there is a club that Wilder would leave Oxford for.

'I do talk to Chris about this quite regularly,' Mr Thomas said. 'As we get more and more successful, we know that clubs will come knocking, even though we don't welcome any approach.'

At the moment Oxford are top of the Blue Square Premier League.

To me this sounds such a similar story as we heard when Mark Robins' name was first linked with Barnsley. Our Chairman came out saying he was sure that his manager wouldn't want to go anywhere - and we were top of our league too. So, Mr Thomas, beware!
