RUFC - Douglas 'no crisis'

Rotherham United Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas says that losing the manager and backroom staff is not a crisis, it's just unfortunate.

Speaking to Danny Hall of The Star, Mr Douglas wants to allay any fears that the management team leaving will disrupt the Millers push for promotion to League One and beyond and said, 'When you've been through seasons having points deducted and then you finally get a squad together who are capable of challenging for promotion and then the manager and backroom staff leave, the fans are bound to be concerned. But there isn't a crisis. A crisis is when you have no ground, you don't know if you are going to get paid or when people are working with half-pay or getting redundant. The situation with Mark (Robins) and the backroom staff is unfortunate - but it's not a crisis.

'The fans have given us tremendous support and we will repay that loyalty by doing our best to find a good replacement for Mark.

'Steve Thornber, Alan Crawford and Paul Warne have stepped into a very difficult situation and have done as well as can be expected. Manager's come and go and it's important for the players' own careers that we don't allow it to spoil what has been an excellent start to the season.'

Mr Douglas is hoping to start interviewing candidates for the job next week and yesterday, Chairman, Tony Stewart said there had been almost fifty applications sent in, amongst them some instantly recognisable names.

You know, when someone comes out and says 'there isn't a crisis' when I hadn't even thought about there being a crisis - I tend to get a little worried
