RUFC - Pope battled despite back injury

Rotherham United striker, Tom Pope played more than seventy minutes against Crewe on Saturday despite all but being ruled out with a back injury on Friday.

Manager, Ronnie Moore told Les Payne of The Star, 'The lad had a fitness test at one thirty and decided he would be OK to play.'

The twenty-four year old, who joined the Millers from Crewe in the summer after Moore recommended him to ex-manager, Mark Robins, played over seventy minutes with a back brace on and was given a warm reception from the Crewe fans.

'He gave his all,' Moore said after the three-two win, 'and he is the sort who will work and graft.'
