'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Chairman on Ronnie Moore

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart told Andy Giddings on Radio Sheffield that he feels, after the reception Ronnie Moore got at Don Valley against Barnet, if he had not been chosen as manager, he would have been lynched!

'The directors and I felt that Ronnie Moore was the best man for the job,' Mr Stewart said this evening. 'He had a good CV and had a good interview and, it just seemed natural to pick him.

'We got the short list down from fifty to eight - of those fifty there was a manager who had just left a Premiership club and two or three from the Championship. It was overwhelming to get that sort of response.

'In the end it was about employing someone with ability, drive, enthusiasm and someone who could take us forward. And, we want someone in charge long term which is why Ronnie Moore was given a three year contract.

'My job is to listen to the managers' needs and desires. For any one to do the right job he has to have the right tools and Ronnie looked at the squad and likes what he has.

'So far I am very impressed with Ronnie and we get on well, have a good rapport and we want the same things. He likes to see good football and likes to win - but that's his job.'
