CHESNEYS CRUSADE.....

FOR ME THE TURNING POINT OF THE SEASON, WASNT THE WIN AT BRADFORD OR THE LAST MINUTE WINNER AGAINST DONNY.
IT WAS AT 3.00 ON SATURDAY JANUARY 21ST WHEN YOUNG STEPHEN QUINN STRODE LIKE A GIANT ONTO THE MILLMOOR TURF FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAINST NOTTINGHAM FOREST.
HE LOOKED LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN CHESNEY AND BILLY CASPER FROM KES.
ONE STRONG GUST OF WIND AND HE,D BE OVER.
BUT ONCE THE WHISTLE BLEW WE KNEW DIFFERENT.
FROM THE START OF HIS 16 GAME RUN WITH US HE MADE HIS 'ZONE' HIS OWN.
DESPITE ONLY MAKING AN HANDFUL OF APPEARENCES PRIOR TO HIS MOVE TO MILLMOOR, HE PLAYED LIKE A VETERAN WITH OVER 500 GAMES TO HIS NAME.
HIS WORKRATE, HIS TENACITY AND HIS FIGHTING SPIRIT WERE SECOND TO NONE.
LEE WILLIAMSON IS A FIRST CLASS PLAYER IN HIS OWN RIGHT, BUT EVEN HE CANT DO IT ALL ALONE, AS WAS PROVED AT COLCHESTER.
QUINNY WAS THE IDEAL PARTNER FOR WILLO TO OFFSET SOME OF HIS WORKLOAD ON.
KEANO, MULLIN AND MCCLAREN ALSO BENEFITTED WHEN QUINN WAS PLAYING.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE STATS SHOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE MIDFIELD DYNAMO MADE.
POST GILLINGHAM (3-0) AND PRE-FOREST WE PLAYED 20 WON 2 DREW 7 AND LOST 11.
THE 16 GAME RUN WITH QUINN IN THE TEAM WE WON 6 DREW 6 LOST ONLY 4.
AN EXCELLENT RESPONSE FROM A TEAM ALREADY DOOMED BY THE PRESS IN MID DECEMBER.
HE WAS BOOKED 4 TIMES DURING HIS SPELL, BUT THAT WAS JUST A MEASURE OF HIS NEVER SAY DIE APPROACH TO THE GAME.
ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN, OPPOSING PLAYERS WHO HAD DONE THEIR HOMEWORK, KNEW THE ONLY WAY TO STOP HIM PLAYING WAS BY FORCE.
HE WAS CHOPPED, HACKED AND SENT FLYING BY FRUSTRATED PLAYERS WHO COULDNT GET NEAR HIM.
BUT THEY COULDNT BREAK HIM, HE WOULD GET UP , SHRUG IT OFF AND CARRY ON WITH HIS NORMAL GAME.
OBVIOUSLY OTHER PLAYERS HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE UPTURN IN FORTUNES OF OUR TEAM, PLAYERS LIKE BARKER, MURDOCK AND MORE RECENTLY BUTLER TO NAME JUST A FEW, BUT FOR ME QUINN HAS BEEN OUR KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR.
HES JOINED THE BAND OF LOANEES WHO HAVE EXCELLED FOR US DURING THEIR TIME AT MILLMOOR, TONY CULLEN, SCOTT MARSHALL, JODY MORRIS, NIGEL JEMSON, CARL ROBINSON AND EVEN MARK DRUCES 4 GOAL LOAN SPELL.
HE HAS EXPRESSED HIS WISH TO RETURN NEXT SEASON, LETS HOPE ITS NO LATER THAN AUGUST 5TH.

STEPHEN QUINN ... I SALUTE YOU SIR.
