'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Pope looking forward to Saturday

Rotherham United Striker, Tom Pope is looking forward to the game at Port Vale on Saturday, as he is a closet Vale fan!

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star, the twenty-four year old said, 'Before I started playing football on Saturday's I used to go to Vale's games. I was an avid fan but when you are playing football you have to chose one or the other. I chose to go and play football rather than watch. I think I chose wisely looking at how they've gone down the leagues over the years!'

That last statement won't please his Dad or his Grandad who are both season ticket holders at Vale Park - his Grandad having had one for seventy years and his Dad hasn't missed a Vale game, home or away for twelve years.

'This game is massive for me. People look out for Manchester United or Liverpool in the cup but this game means more to me than any cup game.'

Pope says he doesn't know whether he will be starting the game, after being dropped to the bench for Sunday's FA Cup tie against Wealdstone.

Though, I heard very good reports from the Reserve win on Tuesday about Tom Pope's workrate and the way he and Ryan Taylor played together.
