'If It's Football, It's Vital'

FL Chairman to step down

Lord Mawhinney, the Football League Chairman informed the League Board at a meeting in Preston today that he intends to step down on 15 March 2010.

Brian Mawhinney was appointed the Chairman of the Football League in 2003 and a year later oversaw the re-organisation of the league structure, which saw the former Division One renamed as the Football League Championship.

Today, Lord Mawhinney told the Football League's Official Site, 'It has been a privilage to serve the Football League and I have greatly enjoyed the challenge of helping to shape a better league. I am grateful for all the support I have received.'
