RUFC - Update on the Pitch

Rotherham United`s head groundsman, Jim Davison (and yes, he has heard all the jokes!) says that, although the pitch is wet, they`ve got it under control.

Speaking to MillersWorld, Mr Davison said, 'Two thirds of the pitch is absolutely wonderful but the juvenile turfed area is quite soft and squelchy.

'Because of the amount of rain and the fact that it`s come in deluges it is taking time to get rid of the water and we can`t get on there with the big machines to put it right. We`re going through our usual divoting regimes and using smaller mowers on it.

'Rotherham aren`t playing on it but Parramore Sports FC are getting their fixtures in.

'We are virtually draining Don Valley weekly to try and keep the water going through the pitch but because of the amount of rain this week we`ve not been able to get on so there is a bit of standing water about but we`re in control. It`s been quite a difficult job and we have to try and be one step ahead of the weather forecast but there is more grass on it now than there was at this stage last season.`

Jim was asked about some of the designs we`ve seen on the pitch this season and he said, 'It seems to have been that long since we`ve played a game there I`d forgotten about putting patterns on the pitch. But, I`ll see what I can come up with for the game next week.`
