'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Moore on footwear

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore is certainly no fan of the modern day football boot.

He told MillersWorld that you can't beat the old fashioned studs and that he couldn't see himself playing in size ten, white boots with blades on.

'The modern day boots are a joke to me,' Moore said. 'They should be made to play in the six studs - four at the front and two at the back. We wore them when we played in mud heaps and the pitches these days are an awful lot better.

'You've got to have the right equipment but there's not much we can do about it because it's their choice of footwear. But for me the blades are no where near as good as the old type studs that go straight into the ground. The blades just get full of mud.'

I'm just wondering if a manager can't tell his players what boots to wear - surely it's a matter of safety on the pitch. How often have we said in the last couple of years, after seeing player after player slipping and sliding about, 'he should have proper boots on.'? Perhaps it's time the manager's got the players' agents involved in that side of things?
